Conversations for Troubled Times

Dear Friends and Colleagues

Many people feel unsettled by the world right now
Things don’t make sense in the way they once did

There are more questions than answers — about politics, the environment, culture, identity, and the direction our lives are taking. Yet there are very few spaces where uncertainty can be spoken about openly. Most conversations push us to take a position, form an opinion, or offer a solution. What often gets lost is the chance to pause, reflect, and speak from a place of not knowing.

This letter is an invitation to express interest in participating in a guided dialogue created for people who feel unsure — not because they are uninformed, but because these are confusing times. The dialogue is inspired by the words of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke: “Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.”

The dialogue offers a space to:

  • speak without being judged or corrected
  • explore uncertainty without pressure to resolve it
  • listen and be listened to with care
  • rediscover curiosity as a way of gaining perspective

This is not a debate, a lecture, or a therapy session. It is a conversation where not-knowing is welcomed, and where meaning can begin to emerge through dialogue. If you are feeling troubled, uncertain, or simply curious, you are not alone.

Practical details

We anticipate a series of four sessions, each two hours in length, held online, early evenings. The series is expected to begin in early April, with sessions held fortnightly.

Testimonials

You have a gift of making complex philosophical thinking easier to understand and apply to daily life.

I thoroughly recommend Steven’s workshops. His ability to illuminate the link between philosophy and psychological practice has enriched and deepened my work as a psychologist.

I would love to know if you are offering anymore PD related or group work in the future.. have thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday night content over the last month, thank you!

I enjoy every minute of your 'lecturing' I wouldn't refer to it as lecturing. I think you have a lovely conversational style.

I absolutely loved the course and to say it has given me new perspectives is a gross understatement. It is has started me on a long, fascinating journey that I will continue throughout my career. Thank you.

I so much enjoyed the opportunity to do this seminar . It was fascinating, affirming and integrative for me.

Condensing all of these philosophical reflections into 10 meaningful hours of insights is impressive. It has been a blessing for me to have been able to learn from you. Thank you so much for your wisdom.

Thank you so much again for an absolutely lovely opportunity to dive in deep. … Such a blessing to have been taught through such an experiential program. This was also my most enjoyable PD sessions to date!
